| In
order to protect these unique products, the Textiles
Committee has been spearheading a nationwide
campaign in the country through facilitating GI
registration of potential products and technical
knowledge transfers. Besides the Csommittee is
disseminating the trade related information for
capacity building. A five pronged approach has been
adopted for taking the task of GI registration to a
decisive end and transferring the protection through
registration to the tangible benefit for the
stakeholders. They are:
a.
A nationwide awareness campaign for creating
awareness among the stakeholders of Textile &
Clothing sector on the possible benefits of GI.
b.
Undertaking a comprehensive study for identifying
potential products of T& C sector for GI
registration and Study & Documentation for
facilitating GI registration of the products.
c.
Facilitating GI registration for some prominent
products of the sector
d.
Quantifying the benefits of GI registration through
post-GI impact study on some of the registered
products for accessing the actual impact on
employment, income, employment, productivity, etc.
e. Dissemination of the issues relating to GI
through vernacular language besides publishing in
Hindi and English.
As
a part of the endeavor, the Committee has also
facilitated GI registration for products like
Lucknow Chikan Craft, Banaras Saree & Brocades
of Uttar Pradesh, Khandua Saree & Fabrics, Pipli
Appliqué of Orissa, Bandhani Textiles and Surat
Zari of Gujarat, Paithani Saree of
Maharashtra
, Bhagalpur Silk of Bihar, Guledgudda Fabrics of
Karnataka etc. The state governments of Kerala and
Uttar Pradesh have taken the support of Textiles
Committee for GI registration of some of their
unique products. |
